If you get a message from one of our regular "BBoarders" saying he accidentally sent you a virus and to delete a file ...
DON'T FOLLOW THOSE INSTRUCTIONS!
He's the victim of an email hoax and you would be deleting a legitimate (although probably not used) file. See http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html for details.
Any message telling you "this is not detected by any virus checkers" should be a tip-off that you're being "hoaxed".

Not even if it promises nude pix of Anna Kournikova?

I'm glad you posted about this - I have been trying to "reply all" every time I get that e-mail and tell everyone NOT to delete the file. Hopefully with the number of people that read this board, there'll be another handful of people who know not to perpetuate this hoax.

I got this message from a clarinet player a few month ago. I mailed her back and asked her if this was a hoax or if she actually wrote it herself. She said that she indeed had written it herself after having been in contact with a friend who is a computer expert and he had told her to follow the instructions. I beleved this and deleated the file as written.
I still felt suspisious so I mailed a friend who's working for a company that spesializes in computer safety and he told me that this actually was a hoax.
I never sent this message to anyone else personnaly but this is maybe the starting point on how it entered the clarinet scene. I mean, she must have had more clarinet players in her address book. She is not a regular on this BB.
