It seems from the various mpcs from different makers that I have measured all have about the same short facing lengths and close tip openings. One prominent maker seems to put his name on an untouched Zinner blank and sell it at a much higher price.
With the popularity of M14s, M15s, and M30s, why aren't there mpcs made from Zinner blanks with simmilar facing curves and tip opennings?

Dave,
I noticed the same thing with my mouthpiece made from a Zinner blank. Essentially an untouched facing with some work done on the inside of the mouthpiece. The facing of this more expensive mouthpiece from the prominent maker was exactly the same as the Zinner stock mouthpieces.
However, this more expensive mouthpiece does play well and produces an amazing sound, one I can't prodice on a zinner blank, so something must be done to them to make them play better.
I was sort of turned off from the mouthpiece because of the findings, but hey. It plays great and gets a great sound, so why complain about it?

I think it would be much more helpful if makers listed the exact length of the facings and not merely terms like "medium". I can't remember anyone listing the length of a facing while it seems everyone lists exact tip openings. What exactly is medium? Is it 34 or 35? Some Pynes and Vandorens I have measured go down to 38 or 40; but I have never seen a Zinner mp go that far.
Aaron--I agree that the mpcs that appear to be untouched do play very well, but I think most people would be surprised to find out how well a Zinner blank plays right out of the box.

Hi,
I played the M13 and M30 I love the way it plays and feels. The sound could be improved if you used a Zinner mouthpiece instead of the rubber used by Vandoren.
Zinner if you are listening make your move now!
The baffel is nice and deep and with a Gonzales #4 gives it good sound. The high register sounds full and not like stepping on a cat.
Longer facings help in projection too and your lower register will thank you for it too. But there is a downside if the facing is too long you can lose focus a little on your sound.
Too short of a facing makes me sit higher on the mouthpiece with my embouchure. So too little mouthpiece inside my mouth is not so nice.
Anyways long live 1.01mm / 36 lol.....
-Frank
It's the wood that makes it good!
