I have been looking to getting one of those colored plastic clarinets. The one i was going ot get was $350 and i was wondering if anyone has had any more problems with like breaking easyer or somthign? It will be my marchign clarient, and a bunch of my friends are gonna get them too. But first i wanted to find out if there was anythign wrong with getting the colored plastic instead of the black stuff...

I do get the impression that most of those are used in marching bands, but you should be able to get one for less than what you are quoting.

If you get a colored clarinet, get a Vito 7312. They are supposed to be of the same quality as the 7212s, and I think most peope here will agree that Vito 7212s are the best student model out there. The colored ones should be just as good as the black ones, which are extremly durable.

Yeah, Joel's right.
There are many many many versions floating around on eBay that are made by no-name or susceptibly-named companies! Buyer beware! Go with the Vitos!

Another vote for the Vitos. Definately don't get the other ones that may have pot metal keys.

Check with your director, especially if your band competes, and be sure that the colored instruments won't offend someone's sensibilities before investing your cash.
I've seen them in marching bands, one band had its (only) 2 clarinets playing yellow ones. At first glance from a distance I thought they were marching sop saxes. They looked pretty good along side of saxes and trumpets. Another band had one red one in a sea of black clarinets, it looked a bit wierd to me.

Yeah, i have been told that if i really want the colored clarinet i have to march at the end of the row, and make sure that i play every little thing, and am pratically section leader, and they will make sure i am always in the front, beacuse that is what they do to people who feel the need to stand out...
so i am rethinking getting one...

If everyone had the same color I think it would look great. I once saw a kid in marching band with the only "colored" clarinet and it really stood out. I have a Rosewood clarinet and believe me people look at it strangely. Imagine playing a green or purple clarinet.

I personally don't like them. They don't sound all that great and are hard to tune. Yes, Vito is durable, but as you progress, you will more easily see the horn's faults. I recommend the Buffet B-12 as a student clarinet.

I still find more faults in the Buffet plastic models......
I hate the mechanism, and they dont feel substantial this is of course my opinion.......
Vito to me has been and still are the best plastic clarinet manufacturer

If you go for it, stay clear of white. I hear that after some time passes they tend to yellow and not look so nice.
