 multiphonic fingering
Author: Ashley McDougall

Does anybody have a good fingering for a multiphonic on the Eb clarinet which produces G4 and C5 (ie: throat G and the C above)? I have checked every fingering chart I can find. Any help will be appreciated.

You'll find one in the book The Cambridge Companion to the Clarinet (ISBN 0-521-47668-2), edited by Colin Lawson. Each chapter of this book was written by a different clarinettist.

Look into chapter 10, "The Contemporary Clarinet" by Roger Heaton.

No need to bother Amazon when we have a great sponsor right here:

Thanks. Maybe I have just had too many rehearsals today, and my brain is not with it, but I can't find the fingering in the Roger Heaton chapter. The closest I can find is for E and C. Is there a later edition of this book with additional fingerings?

On my edition (1999), there is a text about multiphonics on page 175 and a chart on page 180 showing 6 note pairs (C/Bb, D/B, D#/C#, E/C, F/G# and F/A). There are also 2 partiture samples on page 181 (Domaines from Pierre Boulez and Raumform from Robert Platz) with the corresponding fingerings.

Reading the text which covers important details about this subject is essential. Another topics of contemporary repertoire are covered, like high notes and microtones. Good luck!

In the work: "The clarinet of the 21st century" by Michael Richards there is one fingering for G4-C5:

AXXX/XXXF
T

Discription:
Dynamics: p-mf
Stability: stabil-very stabil
Respons: resistant
Timbre: dull

Haven't had a chance to try it. Good luck!
