Hi all,
Although I am only an amatuer clarientist who has been playing for nearly 35 years, yesterday I heard a wonderful live performance of the Mozart Clarinet concerto in Canberra Australia and I feel compelled to congratualte the soloist in public on this forum. I"m not sure if anyone from Canberra reads this board, but if you do please on my congratulations to the young clarinettist, Andrew Harper.
I have never heard a performance where the historical aspects of the interpretation were taken into consideration, and although i didn't agree with some of the finer details of the performance, such as the tempo for the second movement and some of the ornamentation, overall, I thought the performance was stunning. The highlight was easily the liquid sound made by the young soloist. The orchestra was a university orchestra (or college) orchestra directed by the early music specialist Geoffrey Lancaster and it was a wonderful performance by a young man and orchestra. The soloist in my oppinion (and others in the foyer at interval) looked at ease with the occasion and through his ease of performance he was able to generate a great deal of emotion out of the performance
Just thought we would all like to know about another great young player!
