Here's the latest news from Local 802 in NYC
"To All Local 802 members:
Many of you already received information in a previous email about flyering this Wednesday to save live music on Broadway. However, our server went down soon after sending the email, and 550 people did not receive the email. Therefore, I am sending the email a second time, but with two changes:
First, I would like to add that we were extremely happy with the hundreds of positive responses we received from people who would like to help with the campaign. It’s heartening to know that so many people understand and care about this vital issue. It has taken some time for me to get back to everyone, and I am unable to make all the changes to people’s email addresses that were requested of me. Therefore, it would help matters greatly if you could log on to 802’s web site and follow the prompts to make your email address changes directly yourself.
Second, the forecast for Wednesday now calls for colder weather than we had expected. If you are not able to be outside for several hours at once, please feel free to come to Duffy Square a bit later than 5:00pm—if you arrive by 6:15pm or even 6:30pm, you will still have time to pick up signs and flyers and head over to one of the theaters for a good hour’s worth of flyering. We will be starting at 5:00pm, but you should know that if the weather (or time) is an issue for you, you can still make a positive contribution by coming later.
Here is the message that was sent out on Friday:
SAVE LIVE BROADWAY!
We are calling on all 802 members and supporters to come out and help prevent Broadway producers from cheapening musical theater by replacing live musicians with machines. Since we were not able to secure a rally permit for anywhere north of 42nd Street, we will meet at Duffy Square (Broadway at 46th Street, behind the TKTS office) to pick up flyers and signs, and then 16 contingents will be dispatched to hand out flyers in front of 16 theaters.
If one rally won’t work, we’ll have 16!
When: Wednesday, February 26th 5-7:45pm
Where: Meet at Duffy Square
What Theater?: To be determined at Duffy Square
Call Joe Eisman at (212) 245-4802, ext. 191 if you have any questions. If you can, bring your instrument. Let’s show the public, the producers and the press that musicians in this town are united in our effort to stop the destruction of Broadway. "

"Strike Up the Band!!!!!" G. G. would be proud to see everyone "out there" spreading the word.

Right , you are, Wm, pretty much snowbound here, but warm in spirit. Hope the rally efforts awaken the musical-supporting public. Pit orch and larger-group employment "rite here in our [several] River Cities" provides a reasonable life style for our best local and touring musicians. Our OKLAHOMA !! sure wouldn't be the great show that it is, with only a 3 piece "orch". Best wishes, JJM et al. Don

More news updates on Broadway:
" The League and the Negotiating Committee met today at 1PM after a press conference by 802 at 11:30 AM followed by another by the League at noon. Needless to say tension was high at the meeting. After a brief volly, the League walked away. The word "impasse" was uttered by the League and no further meetings were scheduled. The Negotiating Committee will meet again on Thursday morning in preparation for what may be a very long weekend. Remember, it is very important to be at the meeting this Sat. 3/1 between shows (5PM) in the clubroom at 802. I'll keep you posted of any new developments in the meantime."
