 McClune Mouthpieces

A couple of years ago my daughter Lauren's teacher recommended that she replace
her Gigliotti P34 with an M13. I tried several and chose the one that seemed
best. Neither of us ended up liking the mouthpiece, so it sat in a drawer until
Frank Kowalsky told me that he was playing on an M13 refaced by his former
student, David McClune, who is now Professor of Woodwinds at Union University in
Jackson, TN. I sent Lauren's mouthpiece to Dave and it came back playing great.
After about a year spent coveting that mouthpiece, I asked Dave to make one for
me. I've been playing it for several weeks and am very pleased with the
intonation, sound, and response. The next time you have a "mouthpiece crisis",
you might consider contacting Dave. (In addition to reworking M13's, Dave also
makes mouthpieces based on Zinner blanks.)

It seems to me that everybody is making mouthpieces these days. It's crazy!
Good for us but bad for the holy grail's seeker, so many more choices to try...

I too had a mouthpiece refaced my McClune, my M14... it plays rather well... however, my primary mouthpiece is still my Greg Smith 1*

Dan, to me, your commentary is authoritative. Does David McClune work on glass/crystal mps, as discussed in the thread above? Many of us are re-investigating this longer-lived, but more fragile material for our clarinet playing. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Hi Don,

I doubt that Dave McClune works on glass or crystal,
but you'd need to contact him to be sure.

Best regards,
Dan
