Has anyone tried Gonzalez F.O.F reeds? How do they compare with Vandoren with respect to strength and "good" ones per box.

i quit using vandoren years ago. have been using gonzalez for the past few months and so far they have all played well. I like the 2 1/2 because i find the 3 1/2 are to hard for me.a

Hi Mark,
You may want to try a search on the BB as this subject has been a well discussed one during the past few months. You should find all you need to know as your questions are many of the same ones that others have asked.

I just started my first box of Gonzalez F.O.F. reeds, based on the positive comments posted on this Board. I had been playing Vandoren Traditionals, but found them inconsistent and also felt that I needed a reed that was "between strengths" (eg. somewhere between 2 and 2 1/2) on the Vandoren system. Out of the first box of Gonzalez 2 1/2s (which may equate to a Vandoren 2 1/4, if they existed) the first five reeds have proven to be the right strength for me, and they are both consistent and eminently playable. None of the five seem to need any adjustment so far.

I tried the mozart reeds at the oklahoma symposium last summer. I liked them there and took home a couple of boxes. I got home and couldn't get any air through them; they were too hard!
What strength FOF would be equal to a V12?
