Just a silly *idea* (Mark please read)
Author: Aussie Nick
Date:   2003-01-07 11:34

Would it be ridiculous to suggest maybe a photo section for the users of this site? So that we can know who we are talking to? It sounds stupid but I like seeing photos :)

Nice idea. It'd be good to be able to visualise the people we converse with. Of course those who have searched the site will have found the picture of Mark C.

Connoisseurs (sp?) of the grotesque (and Aussie Nick who just likes seeing photos) will find a picture of me at http://www.davidpeacham.freeserve.co.uk/David.jpeg, or can find the full gory details at http://www.davidpeacham.com.

This site will also tell you my real email address; correspondence welcome but please do not abuse it nor post it to a website.

Don't all rush at once, I wouldn't like to crash my ISP's server...

I think it's a great idea! I've heard a few people refer to those who post often as "family". What a wonderful way to get to know the "family" members by seeing their photo! I'm all for it!

Of course, some may want to remain "anonymous" (photo wise) for personal reasons and I can respect that. As for myself, I don't consider myself photogenic. I've lost a lot of hair on top and my white goatee isn't the greatest looking, but, hey,...that's what makes me...me.

To Jez: I've looked all over this site and couldn't find any picture of Mark C. Would you be so kind as to let me know where I might locate it? Thanks.

Dan

Photo?!?! Yikes........ I used to look something like Elvis, but now bear more of a resemblance to Larry Combs. (sure wished I sounded like either...)

Personally, and more seriously, I kind of like some anonymity and would hate to see this BB become oriented towards outward appearances rather than quality of content. Alfred E. Newman or Fabio--who cares--it is what's said that is relevant, not "looks." That's also why most auditions are held behind screens--at least, the more equatable ones.

(besides, when you look like me, it's EASY to be humble)

I am sure pictures will be optional. Anyway, you can always send in someone else's photo. As they say, "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog."

Auditions are held behind screens to minimise accusations of prejudice on the grounds of age, colour, sex, make of instrument etc. Here we aren't judging each other, so surely we don't need to worry about prejudice?

Some people would rather see the horns/gear that is/are being discussed. I, for one, am not familiar with some of the topics.

Geez, David Peacham, that's almost exactly what I look like, except I have a slightly shorter, rounder face and more gray around the chin!

Maybe we could just share a picture?

Speaking of pictures, I'm a litle surprised sellers in the classifieds haven't added more images to the their items ... especially the horns. I suppose it'll take awhile to catch on and perhaps most haven't reviewed their ads since the conversion. Although, Mark certainly made ample BBoard and email notifications.

Having photos would be yet another blow to the imagination in this modern, highly visual age. Isn't it more fun to form a mental picture of what so-and-so looks like? For those old enough to recall the early years of TV, remember how shocking/disappointing/disillusioning (or whatever) it was to see some of the radio actors/celebrities on TV?

We have now established that Peter and I look alike.

We also have his confession in another thread that he is "forward, argumentative and opinionated."

I am beginning to fear that this may all be evidence of a horrible cloning experiment back in the fifties.

Peter, do you own, and proudly wear, a T-shirt saying "I'm not opinionated, I'm just always right"? I was presented with it in a business meeting. I couldn't understand why people laughed. It just states the simple truth.

I say go for the pictures. Sorry Marge, don't agree with you. Hey David, on the tee shirt thing, sounds like something that could have happened to me.

Hi All:
I sent this website to Mark a while ago. It includes my picture and some bio material.
It is the official website for the American Composers Orchestra in NYC.

Good luck with your search for interesting looking clarinet players, unfortunately I'm not one of them.

David,

This is too funny. I don't have a t-shirt that says "I'm not opinionated, I'm just always right."

But I do have one that says, "I was wrong once, about 10 years ago," on the front. Then on the back it says, "One time when I had thought I was wrong, but wasn't."

Gee, do you think they were cloning back in 1951?

Hey Peter, I might swap you. I have a beautiful blue sweatshirt that reads: "Still perfect after all these years."! Amen and Amen!

I thought my husband was the only person who thinks he's always right. And, he was born in 1949. He'll be disturbed by all the competition.

Bob, my Dad was born in '18 and gleefully bangs away on his Hammond organ 2 hours everyday ... I think he's played the same Kay Kaiser tunes more than "Stairway to Heaven" was played on the radio in the 70s. You're still a spring chicken ... hehe. v/r Ken

Well Bob, I hope I'm still always right when I get old. The only hitch is that I must be realted to Jack Benny, because I have never gotten past 39. :-)

I can breath more easily. The cloning experiment produced Peter back in 1951. They then spent six years working on improvements (better shape of face, darker beard, more amusing T-shirt) before the machine churned me out. I haven't come across any more recent clones, so evidently they realised that with me, they had achieved perfection.

David,

Or could it be that after they produced me and tried to improve the results they realized they could only do worse and gave it up? :-)

No, some people just morphed it into a very silly thread that's gone on long enough now.
