Hi i was wandering if anyone has any suggestions on how to play it considering it is about 6 feet tall so if you can give suggestions they would be appreciated.

As far as I know, the Contrabass is played exactly the same as any other clarinet. The fingers operate keys instead of covering holes, so that the fingers can be in one place and the holes in another. In this way, the hand positions and fingering are the same as a normal clarinet. The tube of the contrabass is bent around and around, so that the whole instrument is manageable, even if the tube is 6 feet long.

Also most contrabass players sit on a stool rather than a chair.

Even in the straight ones, I don't think you cover the finger holes directly. You press down on pads. These operate levers which covers the holes. So you can still use your normal clarinet hand positions.

If you have a straight contra, and the mouthpiece is too high to reach when you're sitting, you pretty much have to either stand or use a taller chair. I've seen contra players standing (sometimes with the horn resting on a telephone book), sitting on a stool, and sitting on a stack of stackable chairs. A stack of telephone books may also work. It is generally *not* practical to try angling the horn enough to play sitting on a normal chair.

a friend i met at area tryouts used a stool and sat on her *lucky* dictionary. some times you might have a stool that is too big. thats where you use a bass clarinet ajustable stand.

A stool is only too big if you have one such as a vito. They don't h ave adjustable pegs. My leblanc has a adjustable peg. The peg goes out to about 2 and a half feet. Maybe for someone who is about 8 feet tall? haha I don't know. haha
