 Clarinet A Scale Arpeggio
Author: Clarence1

Hey, I'm wondering how to play an A scale arpeggio all the way up to high A, considering both high E and high A are the same fingering.

As of right now I am moving my pinky from the G# key of my right hand to the C# key below it, but that is such an awkward and poorly technical move.

Any suggestions?

The move from E to A is very largely governed by the way you voice the notes with area around back of the tongue.
The A certainly pops out much more easily with the C# key and I would suggest playing the E without the G# key and just adding the C# to help the A speak.

Just use the C# key with your left pinky on the A after using the G# key with your right one.
But the most important, as Norman said, is the voicing.
You can practice this exercise : on the fingering of a low C, without moving your fingers, try to play low C, then G just above the staff, then high E, high A, altissimo C#, only varying the size of the cavity of your throat. A good way to succeed is doing that with no tonguing at all, blowing like "HA" each note after another.
You can do that based on other notes, for example : low C#, G# juste above the staff, high F, high Bb...
Sorry if all that is not very clear, don't hesitate to ask me if you need me to rephrase something.
