I think learning a new instrument is good(provided you have the time) and it also makes you more versatile. For me if I were to pick between oboe and bassoon I'd rely on which inst. requires less air support(as I can't hold a note for long), but if it dosen't matter to you then I suggest you should look at their fingerings. See which one is easier. If you'd like a challenge you shld pick the harder inst.
I like the sound of the bassoon better. Cute. But my friend keeps screwing up the fingering though.. Don't know if you can do it.
