What are these bits from tube cane?

I haven't been processing my own cane long and haven't seen much yet. What are these things found in some of the tubes from a new Loree batch? One tube with both ends blocked held at least 10. They look like plant matter, but many have a shiny inside reminiscent of a seashell and some have a sort of wormy outer appearance. Many have the same basic shape. I have not seen these in any other batch of cane (though I have sometimes seen what looks like a caterpillar or spider silk). Detritus from some former resident pest?
