 Green Cane
Author: HollyB

Is it just me being very unlucky in tube cane purchases, or is the cane available right now, from a large number of vendors, unusually green and gouger unfriendly? I've ordered from 4 reputable vendors, Var, "K" cane, Glotin, and Rigotti, and it's all predominantly green, gouges like rubber, and plays with a noticable lack of resonance. I'm losing my peace of mind and my cane budget over this. Are we using up the dregs of 2018's sale crop, or is this a good indication of what's coming over the pond for the remainder of 2019? If so, this is going to be a very long year.

Green cane can be aged in the sun or the attic until the greeen turns golden. But I agree that it is frustrating to get green cane from a vendor.

Is it possible to use a food dehydrator (which does not get very hot) to age cane?

Drying and aging cane slowly and naturally improves the performance characteristics similar to construction lumber that is naturally and slowly air dried over several years.

Construction lumber that is kiln dried in a short time can warp and does not perform like naturally dried wood. I would expect something similar from using a dehydrator with cane.
