Opinions on value of Loree Royal NZ01?

Hello,

My late teacher's wife is looking for a new home for his oboe. He was a professional oboist, owned an instrument repair business for many years, repairing and serving instruments from all over the state of Arkansas and surrounding states.

His oboe is a Loree Royal, AK bore, NZ 01. I would like to buy it from her, and her and I are researching the price range for such an instrument. I'm looking to pay a fair price. She's said she'll be fine with whatever we come up with.

When he was no longer able to play due to his illness but was still repairing instruments, he readied his oboe to sell. I played it today, and I can see nothing wrong with it at all, and, to my ears, it played well and was mechanically as it should be.

Does anyone with first-hand knowledge of these things have a value range they'd put forward?

Thanks

The serial number dates it to 2000-2001. New they are priced at $USD 8,500 and up depending on the model.

For yours, I would guess at a rough value of $4,500 to $5,000. For an expert opinion, try contacting some of these vendors:

I ended up offering $5,500 after inquiring of the value through several resellers. Now, to solve my reed sourcing problem!

Ha, I hear you with the reed sourcing problem. I've given up trying to play yet again because I can't find anything that works anywhere in the same ballpark as the reeds my teacher used to make, and I'm a dunce with reed making myself. Maybe I'll learn soprano sax, and only half kidding.

Loree's need a very refined reed. When ordering from a new source, ask what they make their reeds on.

What they make their reeds "on?" Do you mean what instrument are they using to test them? All of what I get when I buy is unstable and doesn't crow the two Cs. Everything and its cousin you can think of that isn't stable and doesn't crow two Cs.
