plastic sleeve inserted into the top joint of old oboe

Greetingsā€¦

Has anyone had a plastic sleeve inserted into the top part of the top joint of their oboe? Were you happy with the result? I am considering having this done for an old Loree oboe (CZ), because the top part of the top joint has become too large over the years and is causing instability problems in the low notes (low D and lower). Outside of the low range I am happy with the way it plays, but it has become too problematic with the low notes for continuing playing it anymore. I have been told by a repairman that the sleeve will fix the low notes, but that the horn will play differently and I may not like it. He did not get into the specifics on how it would play differently, but I would assume the tone and resistance will be the main changes. It may also affect the intonation / scale to some degree.

Thanks in advance for your feedback on this.

Tom
