 Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique glissando
Author: oboi

Hi,
I'm playing Symphonie Fantastique and in the 5th movement there is this glissando that we do (along with the flutes) from 3rd octave C to 2nd octave C. What is one supposed to do here? I tried to imitate a gliss by slowly bending down the 3rd octave C and then hitting the 2nd octave C in time.

What are the flutes doing? Lipping down, then playing the lower C? or playing a series of fast notes to the lower C? I do whatever the flutes do.

If you are lipping it down, when you arrive at the downbeat you can try adding two additional fingers on the right hand to make the final note darker so as to not pop out.
