LEFT C#- POLL- SHOULD LEFT C# BE STANDARD?

POLL- Should a left C# key be "standard issue" on all "professional model" oboes, eliminating the "banana key" ? (I have this poll up on FaceBook, International Double Reed Society page at the moment also). My question is: if you were offered a new professional model oboe with left hand C# for the same exact price as an instrument without left hand C#, which oboe would you choose?

I think so.

I also read Christopher Redgate thinks it should be standard equipment on pro level oboes.

The opinions I express are my own.

You have to be a contortionist to use the banana key and then trill with the C#.

Chris, I'm in awe of your C# mod. Gorgeous work.

My first teacher told me of an oboe he played that had a low C# on the left hand as a butterfly key on the other side of the left hand E Flat key, and he thought it was a marvellous idea - this was on an ancient oboe that he used to have - a Loree I believe. My Louis oboe has the low B butterflied with the left hand E Flat, and has a left hand F below the E Flat key - it is a bit awkward ( The left hand F) but I will get used to it if I decide to use it. Anyway I think the LH C# is an excellent idea and should be standard.

Yes I think it should be standard but it would cost a little more one would think.

The banana key is hard to use on a lot of oboes depending ones fingers.
I had a Patricola S5 its was by far the best Banana key I used (not the oboe just the key), It was close to the finger and nice and high.

My Marigaux the key is to far from my finger and lower for my liking.

I tried a Howarth XM just could not for the life of me touch the key.

Thanks

Nicholas
