 Need a tougher screwdriver

Hi, What screwdriver do you use on stubborn screws? I have three screws on the top of the bottom joint that feel like they have been super-glued and my screwdrivers couldn't handle it.

For those kind of screws, I took a regular large screwdriver and carefully ground a tiny tip on it. I don't recall tempering the tip. It has been very useful for difficult tiny screws as it has a large handle for a good, powerful grip.

If you can do both carefully and safely, heat the adjusting screws up (using either a gas flame, a hot air gun or soldering iron type pad cup heater) if they've been superglued in and that will free them. Remove the keys instead of trying to do this when they're still on the joint.

Thanks for the input. I got the screws out. All I have are the cheapie 3" set of "precision" screwdrivers and hopefully that's all I will need. A 5" "T" handle driver would have been good to have. Again, Thank you for your responses.

The best small screwdrivers around are German, made by Wiha. They have precisely formed tips and are made of Chrome-moly steel. I have some of these that are 20 years old and are still in nice shape. The cheap ones (ALL of the rest) will mess up the screws on your instrument.

On my Loree oboe I find a #26025, 2.5mm x .50 is a perfect fit .

You can buy them in many places, including Amazon.
