I am wondering whether or not there is an American source for oboe cane.
While reading the paper this past weekend there was a story about a giant cane plant that is being listed as an invasive species in three states. It turned out to be the same plant used for reeds. Right at the end of the article there was a very small sentence that the cane featured in the story was used for woodwind reed manufacturing.
So, is there a source for this US grown cane? This is fascinating to me. I am just curious. Thanks in advance.

Years ago (50?!) there was an article in Woodwind World by Julien Shanis, the , then, EH. player in the San Francisco Symphony, about going out to some new cane fields in California and testing the quality. At this point in time I don't know if they still exist. One of the major players/teachers out there, should know about this. Regards.

A long time ago, an oboe professor at LSU was trying naturally grown Louisiana cane and told me they were as good as most cane bought from France. Not sure if any one still play around with it.
