I'm wondering how to keep my older oboe's screws in place, once they're adjusted. Some tend to 'slip'...

I've been told to use clear nail polish, or a thread. Other solutions out there?

or Lock-tite, available at any hardware store. Get the non-permanent kind (red bottle?)

Assuming your screws are the type with heads the best long term solution is to get the keys re-fitted so that the heads lock tight into the posts when correctly adjusted.

A common cause of this problem is that the pivot screws have been mixed up at some point in the instrument's life. They should always be returned to their original position on the oboe.

I can vouch for the clear nail polish. My thumb octave rod screw would back out every practice session, but I haven't thought about it since a small dab of nail polish halted it in its tracks!

The seal breaks easily when using a screwdriver, so its not permanent. And you can apply it once the screws are adjusted. I would assume loctite would mean you would have to remove the screws to put it in?
