 Leblanc Dynamique A Clarinet

Hello All,

I have a Leblanc Dynamique A Clarinet that, based on the style of trademark ("G. Leblanc" in a single line), probably dates from the early 1950's. I understand that the large-bore Dynamique model is the predecessor of the "Pete Fountain" or "Big Easy" model. I've see a few references to Dynamique Bb instruments on a popular auction site, etc., but never an A, that I can recall. Are there others out there? Mine has serial number "1A". Was there ever a number "2A"?

Best regards,
Jim

Jim,

I recently purchased a Leblanc Dynamique in the key of A with the markings Dynamique in script on the upper joint above the Leblanc logo. On the lower joint it is marked as your is marked (G. Leblanc in a single line above the logo).
The serial number of mine is 402 (on both joints) and I believe it dates from the early 1950's, but I am not certain.

So we have found two Leblanc Dynamique clarinets in the key of A. Any others out there?

Floyd

It's interesting that it has taken nearly five years from my original post for a second one of these to turn up. It looks like after they called the first one 1A they went at some point to a different number sequence.
It looks like these are the same model, including the script model name.
An unusual feature of the one I have is that the wood is much blacker than other instruments.
I haven't played mine in quite a while, but I recall it being very well in tune with a tone a bit brighter that the Buffet R13.

Floyd, thanks for sharing your information!

Ken,

It plays very nicely. Intonation is excellent and tone is brighter than my Evette & Schaeffer K36773 Bb. I like it. I am an intermediate player and am very pleased with both instruments.

Closer inspection of the serial number of my LeBlanc "Dynamique" in Key of A shows that the serial number could be read as either 402 or A02. Any ideas? Clarinet dates from1970s

Probably 402, since Leblanc didn't use zero padded serial numbers.

Are you sure it is from the 70s? The Dynamique seems to have been produced in the mid/late 50s and was renamed (or replaced by) Dynamic.

Are the keys plated or German silver?

Please try and upload those images again.
