 cleaning tone holes

A couple of the tone holes, the ones which are most subject to bubbles, carry a white deposit. Anything wrong with using vinegar on a cotton swab to clean them?

I would try warm water and Dawn dish soap first. Although I don't think vinegar would be a negative issue for wood.

A quick search yielded the fact the there is 5-20% acetic acid in vinegar. "There should be no lasting effects to wood." But they mention it will make the wood smell like vinegar (they are speaking of wood that readily absorbs moisture though).

Use kettle descaler (probably diluted formic acid) as that won't have anything like the smell as vinegar has, then neutralise it with water once all the mineral deposits have been dissolved.

A pipe cleaner folded in half won't leave any cotton in the hole. Vinegar and water mix work well.

Cotton buds/Q-tips don't leave any cotton as the fibres are longer and tightly wound compared to pipe cleaners which often leave loose fibres.
