I used to play a German system bass by Martin Foag like years ago, and it was a well-built instrument at a fraction of the cost of most German basses. Its sound & projection could compete with a Buffet Prestige bass even though it had a much smaller bore. The keywork was rock-solid- one time it was dropped onto a wooden floor by accident and yet it was virtually intact! I had to sell it and go back to a French bass due to the challenges of finding a teacher who could teach the German bass(which are even rarer than those who can teach German Bb clarinet). If I ever decide to buy a German bass again, Martin Foag remains on the shortlist of makers I'd buy the horn from. But I digress.

Martin Foag has been innovating a lot in his crafting, especially when it comes to metal clarinets as well his low clarinets. His contra-altos are especially original and intriguing!
