Hi all,
I recently had the top joint on my Tosca replaced (due to a problem with the lower tenon).
This has changed the resitances with some notes on the lower joint, and although I've been able to improve it, it's still not at the same level of playability as the clarinet was before.
When I play D5, Eb5 and E5 there is a resitance that causes the note not to speak at first (as if there is a plug stopping the sound).
Also, when I play D6 and E6 the note will almost always squeek and sounds a bit "squeezy" and thin. The E6 will almost always jump to A6 and is quite uncontrollable.
What adjustments should/could be made to the keys in order to make these notes speak a bit more easily and decrease resitance? I'm guessing it's something to do with the Eb/Ab keys and the rings.
I don't think there is an inherent problem with the new joint as the tone/tuning/clarity is superior to that of the old joint.

How did you get the replacement joint? Was it done under Buffet's guarantee? Some of the techs here might have some specific adjustments to suggest, but I would think that along with the replacement joint should come whatever mechanical adjustment is needed to make the instrument play properly. That should, I would think, be the guarantee. So if you got the replacement through a Buffet-authorized shop, I'd go back to the place and ask them to fix it.
FWIW, the problems you describe sound at a distance like poorly sealing pads somewhere, probably in the lower part in the upper joint. You mention D5 - E5 and D6 - E6. What about in the chalumeau, G3 - A3?

Possibly, if the rings and/or the top pad on the bottom joint aren't able to close all the way.
