$300 is a good deal for this horn. These were made specifically for in store sales at Music and Arts Stores. I was a manager there for 7 years. At the time they came in both Grenadilla and Cocobolo and were supposed to be comparable to the Protege line Backun had.
Ventus was the old name for the "Giardinelli" line of instruments. There was an inside problem with the name Ventus being too close to another music company so they changed the entire line from that to Giardinelli a few years back. It would be the same case but it should match and say "Giardinelli" on the outside. I actually own one of the Cocobolo Ventus instruments. I could send you a picture but they're identical.
Basically a lot of these Ventus and Giardinelli models were made using pre-existing models from companies so Music and Arts could sell the same horn and not have to price match them since it's a "different" model and then be able to use rental credit on them.
They have this for the Giaridnelli flute which is "made by" Haynes, the trumpet "made by" Eastman. Prime example of pure marketing,
Hope this helps.
