This is in responce to the initial posting about the Eb clarinet barrel played on by Mark Nuccio. They are made by Lou Gangale in Cleveland. Lou has been my repairman for years and still makes the barrels if you contact him about them. They are amazing to say the least. He has it beveled down on one side so that you can play with a Bb reed on the Eb mouthpiece in the same fashion that Ted Johnson did while he was in the Cleveland Orchestra. The barrels really help with the volatility of the pitch on Eb clarinet and give it a very full and resonant sound. It also makes the upper register both much easier to play but makes it sound alot less pinched. This setup was designed in conjuction with and for Ted Johnson who in this humble clarinet players mind remains the greatest 2nd and Eb clarinetist ever. If anyone is interested in the barrel you can contact me by email for Lou's contact information. I would be happy to give it to you.
