Does anyone remember a relatively recent issue of The Clarinet that tackled the "blow-out" topic? I can't remember if it exists or if I read it here on the BB. If it was in the magazine could you refresh my memory as to the issue & date?
Thanks.

blow out has come up fairly often. I'll bet a search would bring up that article.

I totally disagree with the concept of Blow out on a clarinet. In point of fact I have colleagues who sound great on 50 year old clarinets and play perfectly in tune, so I am not great believer in this idea...that being said I do think that some clarinets need a real reworking type of overhaul and this is where an excellent repair person should come in. The idea of blow out also serves the industry well, for if this does happen then the makers will get much richer. Whether or not the makers think this way it serves a purpose of making money off clarinet players....it also seems that most sax player prefer older instruments as well and I haven't heard of this on a saxophone...maybe its a marketing ploy...

The famous oboe player John deLancie played on the same oboe though his entire career. I guess this one will continue for quite a long one...
maybe we just get tired of our old instruments just like a troubled marriage and move on....
I think this topic is still much open.
