free sheet music - real study material
Author: buedsma

- Didn't see a topic on free sheet music - i found a lot of them , even harmonized for two voices and double bass , with chords.
When someone is interested , i can put them online - the goal would be to exchange all free , traditional tunes expecially focused on ethnic clarinet and eventually adaptations for ensembles. Anyone interested ?

- further : noone able to contact bulgarian players to see how they do their articulations and ornamentations ???

I'm not sure what you mean. Where did you find what kinds of tunes? And are you looking for more transcriptions?

Also...about the Bulgarians...Just go there and find one! I went to Bulgaria two years ago, and found (through a friend) a clarinet player in a village outside of Plovdiv. He gave me lessons...

Of course, it doesn't hurt to learn a bit of the language, and to meet someone from there who can introduce you to the folks you want to know!

The other thing...most of these players learn by ear, and teach by ear. While they may be able to read music, that's not the primary way the music is communicated to other musicians, no matter what instrument they play.

exchange of free material , written down on electronic paper
a central repository of tunes instead of wading through all those websites.

Hearing a tune on a record, you can check if the sheet music is available ! Saves some time ! Sounds not too difficult to me !

And concerning the second part : after 25 years of clarinet playing , also on a lot of folk festivals in western europe , i'm still amazed at all the regional differences in playing and the way ornamentations are created. Impossible to learn that only by ear : a bit of explanation on one tune, mesure by mesure, gives good ideas about how to play and ornament other tunes.
Could be a wise thing to find a player that i can tape on video with some explanation in english. Think that's going to be my next project, because next year i'll take a holiday in bulgaria. Is this players address available ?

While you are in Bulgaria, since it is only a stones throw away why not visit Macedonia.

Go and visit Mr Tale Ognenovski, the father of Macedonian folk music. Of course there are many more clarinet players in Macedonia.

Good luck!

I have transcribed some stuff using the incredible slow downer, but I have no idea about whether its under copywrite or what have you. I don't even know the names of some, as my husband puts some nice tune into a wave format and I turn wave format stuff into midis slowly!

I certainly would be interested in having more transcriptions, although I find that in writing it out I learn it as I go. Like learning by ear for those with limited memory...

I posted this earlier, they also have hand written scores from way back in Bulgaria. Like the twenties.

So my husband directed me to this site, 8000 very ethnic recordings. Perhaps too ethnic for me.

well, as long as it is traditionnal, there are no copyrights
except for specific arranged/played versions

That was anyway what the copyright people i belgium did tell
me years ago when i had to fill in paperwork regarding the copyrighted material in our concerts

Anyway i will ask every owner as much as possible if i can duplicate his material on one website

Well, it's not free, but there is a book of klezmer duos I inquired about in a previous post. I've actually purchased the book since then, and the level of difficulty ranges greatly from piece to piece, but I think everyone can find something in there! :) It's published by Advance Music and it's called Ten Klezmer Duos by Mike Curtis.

Does anyone out there know of a solo clarinet piece in Klezmer style with concert band accompaniment? If so, please contact me with information. Thanks!

Its not solo, we played "Wedding Dance" by some forgotten composer last concert.

It nearly got to be a solo because so many players dropped out!
