Can anyone suggest a sheet music collection of Kolo's?

There are at least one or two kolos in each of several books but I haven't seen a whole book of just kolos...

In a book, or online. When we were in Bulgaria, there was a Kolo channel our our hotel TV. Only Kolos, all the time.

I've never seen a collection anywhere of only kolos. I know they're popular, but the only sheet music I've seen is for a few in each collection.

Hi,

Tamburitsa Instruction Book one by Ron Rendulic (1976) from Duquensne Univ has a fair number of kolos in it They probably have some other books as well.

Vancouver International Folk Dancers Music Books Vols 1 & 2 (1982 & 84) also have a fair number of Croation and Serbian kolos as well as mant other Balkan tunes.
And they're well transcribed.

I don't know if these are still available.

Good luck, Aaron

http://balkantunes.org/music/kolos/index.html

These are the jam tunes for the yearly San Francisco Kolo Festival "Tam Jam" (tamburitza jam) - They're usually not done on clarinet though, I usually play brac or prim, traditional strings from ex-Yugoslavia. I've got some more let me know if you'd like some.

I have some I just do by ear, like Uzicko Kolo which just makes me HAPPPY and it's from the home town of a woman I sing with.

Are there any in particular you like? One of my friends has a huge collection since his main interest is in the area.

When and where? We spent several weeks there each summer now, usually July into August, this year Sofia, Plovdiv, Gabrovo and Velingrad, before going on to Macedonia and Albania.

I saw lots of folklore TV, some of which I can stream in the US, but no all kolo channel anywhere.

That "balkantunes" contribution is wonderful. Thanks so much for that, Ginny!

Here's a link to an offer of a disc with 300 kolos on it (and there are 5 free examples as well):

http://forspili.blogspot.com.au/p/notirana-kola-poznatih-virtuoza-na-svom.html

But to be honest, I haven't followed up on how one is to take advantage of the offer. I think maybe you have to sign up for an online course of some sort. I have so much sheet music to be going on with that I'm not really in the hunt for more as yet, but perhaps this is worth having a look at if you're really keen on lots of kolos.

Cheers!!

Balkan Tunes is a great site!

Comments say "Maimon's Book" - this isn't listed on his website. Any idea where to get the listed sources?

Many Thanks.

I don't go on here often, but I'll ask the owner of that website when I see him, which will be a while. I've run into the fellow who wrote this book on rare occasion as well. I've never seen a copy personally.
