The Selmer probably has a larger bore (the inside of the clarinet). The Signet is a fine intermediate level clarinet, and Selmer makes professional level instruments too. They also are preferred by Bulgarian folk musicians like Ivo Papasov, when made with the "Full Boehm" extra keywork.

I think that the wider bores of Selmers make Balkan music sound different from Buffets. I do play Buffet R13 myself and I know a Macedonian musician here in the US who plays an old Buffet simple system with a JB and sounds beautiful!

It depends on whether you want a professional level horn or an intermediate level horn. Signet is an intermediate instrument. The difference between USA and French is that the USA ones are mostly beginner/intermediate, and the French are the pro horns.

I'd recommend looking at used instruments. If you find a nice old Selmer Series 9 or Series 10 (both pro horns) you'll probably love them!

Hello, Are you sure it is the clarinet and not the mouthpiece/reed combination that is creating the better effect. Just a thought.

If you are in Thessaloniki, you should really get a "demotiko" klarino, known in English as an "Albert system" clarinet. Since you are disappointed with your present clarinet, it might be because the system is not the best one for that type of music.
Oloi oi Ellines paizoune me tetoio klarino, kai yia ta Makedonika tragoudia. Eho ena filo stin Thessaloniki opoios paizei klarino, kai ean theleis tha sou doso to "email" tou.
And if you want more help on this topic, you might want to visit the "Greek Turkish Clarinet Forum." There are also many Slavic, Jewish (klezmer), and other nationality clarinet and other instruments musicians on the site. Here is the url:
