Most of the ones I see are over $200 plus the cost of a barrel.

Follow the links here to find out about hearing aid mikes: http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=2&i=998&t=998&v=f

Shure and others make clip mikes, but they all to some degree have to pick up ambient noise as well as the clarinet sound.

Check these out:

I use the Poullath barrel mike (and a Shure 57 mike).
I recommend the Poullath barrel very highly. I have two of them.

Kalakos,

Do you use both the SM57 & Poullath mikes together?

Yes, I use both the Shure mike and the Poullath mike. I have not been using the barrel mikes for very long, but the advantage is that if I want to move on to the dance floor (I used to do this and move away from the mike to stand with the dancer) now with the barrel mike and a wireless system, most of the sound is still amplified. It's a good system.

John,

That will give you the best of both worlds.

It is an amazing coincidence, but a friend of mine from the internet, a Greek clarinetist in Cleveland, uses the exact same combination. It was unbelievable to me when I learned that.
It must be good, eh??? ;-)

John,

These are both workhorse mikes and I am not surprised.

I use the Poullath PT100S and it's really great. I also use Poullath barrels on all my instruments and it's a cinch to swap between instruments on gigs. (I often gig with 2 instruments). I have a wireless (Line6 Relay G30, best product they make, by far).

I find the PT and Poullath barrels sound amazing and I never use any other mics, but I understand that John (Kalakos) like the boom from the bell when playing Greek style!

Hi Merlin,

Wish the PT100S was still available. Do you use his barrel on your C Albert?

The PT100PV is the only current available model I can find on his website ($260).

Does anyone have experience with these?:
