...two CDs of Fides Auf Der Maur. Earworms galore... (I bought the Klez and the Bartók CDs)

Aaah, Klezmer with Clarinet + Accordion + Bass just rocks.

Here are some samples: http://www.fidesaufdermaur.ch/index.php?seite=seiten/hoerbeispiele.html&menu=hoerbeispiele or http://tinyurl.com/336jh9n

No, I am not affiliated with her, besides living in the same town. :-)

They are very strong players, with tremendous rhythm and intonation.

Their clips are all loud. Do they have anything sensitive on this CD?

The "Odesser Bulgar" tune starts The Klezmatics' "NY Psycho Freylachs" - a tough act to follow.

Define "sensitive"...you know, sound samples rarely are sensitive - they should attract the cheering and hollering masses. (okay, I'm exaggerating)

I fell in love with accordion + clarinet. Unbeatable combo, somehow.

Ben,

I agree - it is a great combination. These are two versatile, acoustic instruments that project well. Dave Tarras formed a trio by adding drum kit, a 3rd person who doesn't need a lot of care and feeding.

The first wedding I played was just accordion & clarinet, under in a tent, in 90 degree July heat. I still run into the couple regularly, and they always get these goofy grins when the see me. I remember how blasted hot it was - guess they remember other things.

The accordion player from that event is still in the area. We are continually involved in other musical endeavors, but I have managed to snag him for a small number of weddings, and it is always surprising how much fun it becomes for us.

Ralph
