 Roma Clarinet

I love to listen to recordings of roma clarinetists anywhere but in Hungry and Romania there is a specific sound. I'd love to know what type of clarinet this is. I don't meen the great Tarogato by the way.

Any suggestions would be greatly recieved.

Try Googling "Ivo Papasov". An incredible player - nobody is close.

Oh I'm a great fan of Ivo Papasov and I know he uses a full Bohem Selmar but it's these Romanian players' clarinets I'm after, the likes who have played with 'Fulgerica' the great Accordioist or 'Filip Simeonov' who's played with 'Taraf de Haidouks' and 'Farmers Market'.

i've been tryin to research on the internet before posing the question here but to no avail. I read in a previous post by Seamus Fitz... that he figured it might be an Albert System G clarinet possibly an Amati?

If your out there Seamus from one paddy to another... ha

I was in Romania for a couple of weeks recently and happened to listen to a CD by a guy called Erno Kallai Kiss. Whether this was "authentic" Gypsy/Roma music or the local equivalent of Kenny G I'm not sure! It was reminiscent of the music I used to hear in restaurants in Budapest when I worked there in 1993, though they didn't use clarinets. I remember being told at the time that the so-called Gypsy bands were no such thing.

The picture on the CD leaflet looked to me like a pretty standard German clarinet. Only the left-hand keywork was visible, so I couldn't tell whether it was a full Oehler (with a plate for the middle finger of the right hand) or another German system. But it was certainly not a simple/Albert system in the correct sense of that term; it had far too much keywork for the left hand.

I assumed it was a Bb - it didn't look unusually big, though I didn't really think about that aspect at the time.

This is the picture, for what it's worth:

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.
