I know this will probably sound like I'm stupid, but what exactly are the ethnic clarinets? I keep seeing klezmer and macedonian, and I was wondering what they are. Are they types of clarinets (like Albert or Boehm) or is it a style of music? Please help me!

It's a style of music performed on clarinet. Some of the ethnic styles use Albert system clarinet, and some use Boehm...

This sounds like one of those questions, "we all wanted to know... but were afraid to ask".

It's not a "stupid question" (whatever that is) at all, CC.

Primarily, as I understand the scheme of things musical, it refers to style of playing. While, some countries of origin for the music and style of playing use predominintly Albert type instruments, modern (Boehm) horns work just as well. It's not so much *what* (type) horn you play, it's *how* you play it

Not a bad question at all.
"Ethnic" comes from the Greek word "ethnos" which means a people, and this would presumably apply to any ethnic or nationality (these days) group or folk group from some geographical region. So the ethnic clarinet is the instrument as used by folk groups. As the father in the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" would say: "Now you know!"

Just off the top of my head, Klezmer could be defined as "eastern European jewish non-liturgical music" and is played by a wide variety of instruments nowadays. Klezmer music, which had been in decline has been going through a revival since the mid 1970's. In the 20th century traditional klezmer has been influenced by other musical styles including jazz. There is tons of info on the web, just put klezmer into Yahoo or Google.
