 contra fingerings

Hi
I have a Sonora contra (temporarily) which I am playing in a concert in November - fingerings above F in the stave are strange - especially as the register key works in reverse...
Anyone got a fingering chart which might help me - the Fox one shows normal L thumb keys - the Sonora is anything but standard !

All Adler contras that I've seen are as 'normal' as any contra is. Also I don't really know what you mean by the register key working in reverse - maybe you could explain more.

Having never touched a contra before, I was vaguely expecting the whisper key to work as on a standard bassoon....but, of course, it doesn't...
Now have a copy of the standard Heckel fingering chart - and that makes everything clear...

For the higher notes, even with a fingering chart, you might need to experiment with alternatives - every instrument varies. It does take a bit of time to retrain your left thumb & also get used to the lack of the standard bassoon fork fingering for E flat.

What are you playing on it?

Do contact me privately with other questions if you want to.

Good luck.

There's not much in 'Pines' - you only play in mvts 2 & 4 & nothing higher than F# in the stave. Good luck with Pictures!

Have fun
