 Cane grain.. that rhymes! :)

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what effect fine vs coarse grain in cane has, if any apart from aesthetics and feel on the lips?
I have a feeling coarse grain is easier to muck up when scraping, not as hard (dense) and can more easily become waterlogged.
