 Good fingering for high a

As title suggests. Preferably without teeth transition and going from g# (Lh 1 Rh 1 + 3rd octave). Many thanks!

Some suggestions for both G# and A:

[All fingerings use either 1st or 3rd octave key, depending on your results.]

G#: * o * | o * * + low B

A (standard): * o * | o * o + low C (optional, for pitch)

A (from G#): * o * | o * * + low B and right G#

No teeth required, but at those heights you may need an oxygen mask!

Good luck!

Jonathan

Up in that stratosphere everything is pretty flexible and you can experiment a lot. My favorite high A is T 2 3, 2 or sometimes T 2 3, 3 depending on the instrument I'm playing on. I find that the first octave key is better than the third for this note, and I'm a third octave key addict otherwise.

Best,

Jennet

Do you know of a fingering chart for those really high notes? I was more than impressed with Kathryn Potter's starting on a soft A and reaching C (www.oboealways.com). She does this on a Laubin without 3rd 8va key and without teeth.

Peter Hurd is pretty good with fingerings; I think there are some on his website.

I hardly ever get up that high... but it's good to know it's at least possible.

Christopher Redgate has a fantastic website for such things, and if you haven't heard "the sting of the bee" yet, you must be from pasculli's time! (=p) Yet, his fingerings don't work for me. Thank you for all the suggestions, will try, yet again, tomorrow!

Howard
