Conflicting research on whether this was made by Buffet or a very good replication of the R-13. It's listed on ebay and I'm considering. Anyone have any info on these?

That's interesting.
It's a K series and would be 1966 if it is a Buffet factory made.

and has shared throat key posts and slotted barrel trill key guide which I have a K series like that I believe. I think it's on my YouTube stuff.

They would have to show a picture under the RH pinky keys to have more information.

If you win it I'd love to check it out and compare it to other same age R13s and K Series.

super20dan, and stevesklar, I appreciate you guys responding. Sure looks to be a well made instrument. The shared throat keys so far as I know put the clarinet in the mid 50s which is in line with pre R13s. It's been on ebay for at least a year. Probably because no one wants to fork over $695 plus shipping for an F.E. Olds and sons clarinet even if it does have a tie to Buffet. If I can justify another clarinet and purchase I will definitely share more photos, and assessment of its performance.

I've played two of these over the years, ONE was really amazingly in tune (better than a new R13 off the shelf) but tone was "ok".
The other one was no better than a student clarinet.... (well, I'd say the same about a Tosca I tried once)
You MAY have a gem!

Yes.
If it was $295 I would have bought it a while ago.
But I have enough R13s and a couple Ks that I don't play and didn't want to add one to my collection just to have it collect dust.

Intrigue and research has a financial limit.

What is it with those shitty tenon corks with square edges? Is that an American thing? Surely if they've done all the rest of the work on it, makes you wonder why they leave the tenon corks unfinished and with glue spread everywhere.

While the anchored pillars are like those on older Buffets, the lower pillar on the RH F#/C# key has a wide flange which I've seen on Malernes.

Hi Chris,
not everyone does (or even can do) work to the highest standard...

I've seen tenon corks done and left like that by some people calling themselves professional repairers as well.

Not on my watch.
