As the title say’s I was very fortunate to be gifted by a family member a very old Buffet Crampon serial number 35833. I believe it is a pre r13 from the search I’ve done which says it might be from 1949.
It didn’t play as it needed some work done to it to get it playing again.
Picked it up today from the repair shop and got to say it play beautifully. The plan is to get it overhauled at some point soon but for now it will do.
If anyone has more history on these clarinets let me know.
Thanks

I used one (34xxx?) for 60 years before replacing it. The clarinet played well with one significant shortcoming: tuning from one register to another. The clarion register was sharp compared to the chalumeau. Having the register key replaced with a longer one reduced this problem. And the altissimo was sharp even after the register key replacement, but using different fingerings allowed me to get close.

I had no problem with cracking. The keys were durable and, with the dull finish, no plating or corrosion problem.

I replaced it with a Libertas.

A former (late) member of the band where I play in NY said he was playing on (or had) a Buffet serial number 38. Is this possible?

Hi Burt

I have to agree that tuning from one key to another is a valid point but I’ve been very fortunate that this has only happened with one key for me altissimo.
Been really enjoying it though

Feliped80, that's great. Maybe it's your choice of mouthpiece or your playing style, But it looks like you found a real winner. Enjoy!

Here's a description of pre-R13s, based on old catalog entries:
