Slow Double Lip Transition is for sissies
Author: SecondTry

I'm devising a single to double lip conversion program called "Navy Seal Double Lip Acquisition"

(I'm not--but if I was) my buddy Leo P would be your instructor, him playing baritone sax (or clarinet--he plays it too pretty well) and students would play no strap clarinet, mimicking his moves ;)

None of this bell on the knee with low notes only for 5 minutes a day stuff!

Double-lip embouchure for clarinet? Um...not necessary. Plenty...PLENTY of fantastic, beautiful sounding clarinet players using single.

Sorry Philip--I should have better provided some context.

Recent discussions here about the transition from single to double lip play--take the embouchure or leave it--have smartly advocated a gradual approach of low notes, with the clarinet resting on one's knee, for only a few minutes a day, slowly building up.

Such wise advise, assuming one wishes to effect this transition (a topic perhaps for another thread) serves as comic juxtaposition to instead adopt a standing posture, without neckstrap, where the instrument is anything but stable, and the player all the while dancing: like Leo P and others in the video.

Hi SecondTry. I got confused trying to connect the video to the rest, partly because I wasn't sure who Leo P was and because the sax guys used neck straps (and I couldn't tell if they were playing double lip.) Some kinds of humor seem to over-challenge my brain, but now I see what you meant.

I play double lip sans neck strap, and standing when needed. I've stood and done solo pieces with band several times. Sometimes if I've been sitting all day I'll walk around the circuit of downstairs rooms in my house while practicing my scales. Um, which admittedly is not so good when your shoulder bounces off a door jamb.
