If you are in the US, could you ask Matthew Simington to choose you three instruments off ebay, recondition them and sell them onto you? He said he was looking for work as a tech right now and I bet he'd do a great job for you.

I'll check what I have. I know that I have a Bundy that has covered keys for the largest finger holes which could be good for the 7 year old. I'm getting rid of instruments and merchandise and some of my tools (mostly sax tools for now) over the next year as I prepare to retire.

When I taught Band every Fall when we started beginners we formed a list of used instruments for sale-- usually from former students who quit. Many of those instruments were in very good shape (they don't wear out much if you don't practice....). Most clarinets sold in the $100 CAD range. May be worthwhile to ask band teachers at local schools if they do something like that.
