  Chinese Vitos?
Author: Ben Shaffer
Date:   2019-03-06 06:29

Just bought a Vito off eBay for my Grandson.
I've heard Selmer has bought the Vito Line and also have heard Selmer is making at least some of their Instruments in China.
Quick question, how can I tell if the Vito I bought has been made in China, or in fact any Vitos have or are being made in China
It looks fairly new and has the gold Lyre Logo on most of the pieces.
It also says Kenosha Wisconsin, USA on it
I've not presumed that means its made in the US
Any Info would be appreciated.
I've not received the Clarinet yet, so I don't have the serial number

I have a Vito as backup and outdoor instrument. Very good intonation, sound, playability, and maybe extraordinary good when you take the price into account.

However, it was purchased more than 20 years ago. I don't know if design or build quality changed since then. At that time, exactly the same instruments were also branded as Holton (my wife has one).

As far as I know, these are still made in Kenosha, as is the new Leblanc Serenade.

You can also buy these from music stores, e.g.

The factory in Kenosha was closed soon after Selmer USA bought Leblanc. I haven't seen a Vito made in China, but it would not be hard for me to tell.

Steve,
Do you think that the "new" ones that are still seen for sale are just NOS from some shop that has one sitting about?

Ben Shaffer, I hope you mean $9.99- because you can buy them from online auctions used for <$100 all day long!

I had a brand new Vito Eb clarinet back in the early 2000s and although mostly good and supplied in the typical Leblanc/Holton case that could survive anything, I had some doubts as some things about this clarinet were questionable. Put it this way, it wasn't as well built as other Vito clarinets I've seen.
