 clicking

Hokay, I got the 2-3/4 Legere soprano sax reed. It works, but I have not found my tuner to check the pitch yet. But...the clarinet, which is still essentially brand new, has a few pinky keys that click when operated. I'm assuming it needs a bit of oil? They had to be pushed a little to operate since they were a tiny bit stuck. It has been sitting in the case for more than a year, and had a grand total of maybe 20 hours on it before then. I tried to sell but no bites, so I still have it, and might as well mess with it. So if it needs oil, I need Oiling For Dummies, what do I use and where do I put it? The keys work; they just click and they did not before.

Clicking is usually because small, thin cork shims are missing where the two key pieces meet. Oiling wouldn't help that. Small pieces of scotch tape can be a short term fix.

Well......oiling may help. The pinky keys represent a lot of mechanics. The paddle keys on the left tend to be more prone to getting a little mechanically sloppy. IF oil will help it will be the two axles for the two long paddle keys for the Left Pinky. Unscrew the axles from their posts and pull them out. Wipe them off on a paper towel. Put a line of key oil (I would recommend the Hetman Heavy key oil ....... especially when trying to quiet things down) along each axle:

Then put them back into the posts (you may have to jiggle the paddles a bit upon re-inserting the axles to get all the holes to line up).

There could be some jiggle in between the posts that hold the key cups but that's an operation that requires a bit more surety in the process.
