 Repertoire for Louisiana Phiharmonic Audition
Author: seabreeze

The Louisiana Philharmonic has posted a "Rep Packet" that provides printed excerpts required for its principal clarinet audition this September (for the position currently held by Christopher Pell, who is moving on to Cincinnati).

https://www.lpomusic.com/online/article/employment

To serious students this will be a familiar collection of exposed and demanding passages from Stravinsky Firebird Suite (1919), Shostakovitch Symphony 9, Mozart Clarinet Concerto, Beethoven Symphony 3, Brahms Symphony 3, Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, Kodaly Dances of Galanta, Mendelssohn Midsummer Night's Dream, Rimsky-Korsakov Capriccio Espagnol, Ravel Daphnis and Chloe Suite 2 that they have long been working to perfect.

Teachers might want to download this free packet as just one example of the kinds of excerpts students need to perfect (and preferably memorize) to prepare for orchestral auditions as well as a reminder that they will be required to sight read more excerpts from the standard repertoire.

Some other clarinet audition lists (but without any printed music supplied) appear at https://allisyar.com/orchestral-audition-lists.

Any serious person auditioning for a major orchestra should already own these excerpt and or parts and have been studying them for several years already. When an orchestra lists "some sight reading" it means they should be prepared to play anything in the normal orchestral repertoire. The excerpts listed, along with all the symphonies of Beethoven, Brahms, Tch. etc. should be part of any serious persons studies and should be constantly under their review as long as they are intending to take auditions.
