Double Clarinet Case

I have just bought the Yamaha Custom CX A clarinet. It came in its own double case. I also have a Yamaha Custom CSG (Bb). When I tried to put the CSG into the double case, it didn't fit and found that the case was really pushing down on to the keys (especially the additional Eb key). Should it be like this? Should I be worried about the keys bending?

Any advice would be great thanks!

The CSGs have a shorter barrel and longer top joint than most (if not all) other common clarinets, including many of their own other models. The CSGs' barrels are only 55mm top to bottom (just got a ruler out on mine), and there's only something like 15mm of bore inside, the rest is just sockets for the mouthpiece and top joint. I think the lower joint is also a slightly different length to the average clarinet.

CSG A clarinets come in double cases specially designed for these funny lengths, so if you can afford to, I guess the best solution would be to contact Yamaha or your nearest dealer and see if you could buy a double case for them. For a number of years before I upgraded my buffet Bb to a Yamaha CSG to match my A, I managed to fit an R-13 sized clarinet into the CSG case, long barrel and all.
Otherwise, I suppose you could take a small saw or a craft knife and extend the slot in your case so the CSG will fit properly. It's not a pretty solution, but there you go.

I've been successful crushing away some of the foam in the BAM cases to deal with the longer upper joint of the CSG. I did this both on their older Trekking style case (with the zippers + clips) and the newer ones (with the hard shell top and zippers, but no clips).

I can't imagine having the keys forced will be good for them in the long run, but CSGs have pretty sturdy keywork and it'll probably be fine in the short term until you find a better solution.

On a related note, Reed and Squeak cases hold the instruments in such a way that the keys do get pressed. It's not the same as forcing a hard case closed on it, but they'll happily survive a quite reasonable amount of pressure.
