Behn SONO mouthpiece 6 month review

Back in May (2017) I messaged Brad Behn about trying a mouthpiece. Also at that time I expressed interest in Kaspar mouthpieces. Brad offered to send his SONO 1.08 and to make me a SONO Kaspar 13 to try. I ended up purchasing two amazing mouthpieces.
-SONO (1.08) - This mouthpiece has such a sweet sound. Sweet, yet still powerful when needed. This piece plays very easily with Aria 3.5 reeds. Articulation is great, wonderful crisp staccato. Sound focuses very easily.
-SONO Kaspar 13 - This mouthpiece really sings. The sound I get from this mouthpiece is so rich and vibrant. Easily the most powerful mouthpiece I've ever played, and yet it keeps its beautiful colorful sound at all dynamics. Articulation is very precise and easy all the way up to double C. Perfect for me with Aria 3.5 reeds.

In the end I bought both mouthpieces because they are that good, but for me the Kaspar is my first choice. Thank you Brad Behn for your amazing craftsmanship.

(I have in no way been compensated for this review. Just sharing my experience)

What about the most important aspect of buying a new mouthpiece? What was the intonation like at A440 or whatever pitch you play at.

Sorry about that. I usually use a 65mm barrel. It is perfect for the Kaspar, I have to pull just a hair for the standard SONO 1.08. For me and my embouchure the Kaspar has slightly better tuning in the extreme altissimo. Both are excellent. I play at A440. The clarinet I am playing is flat on any 66mm barrel regardless of mouthpiece.

I gotta call Brad and see if I can get an M13 on mild steroids ... want slightly more hold and depth ... and I play a little flat with a 66mm barrel as well, unless room is warm ... so a 65mm barrel might be in future

So glad to hear from another satisfied customer ... I think Brad Behn hits a home run often, and never less than a triple ...

Our generation is so lucky to have so many great MP masters to chose from.

Hilarious you had this experience it pretty much exactly matches mine.

I was provided with two mouthpieces for review (both of which were of course to be returned) but I simply have to keep one, so I'm going to be purchasing it soon. In fact, I'd keep both if the price weren't so prohibitive. In fact, the thought of no longer having the mouthpiece that I fell in love with (the G series EPIC) caused me considerable anxiety! Best to bite the bullet and purchase this work of art, I thought.

I now own this and an also wonderful (but different) Fobes 10K and definitely think they are the holy grail of mouthpieces today (that I have so far tried!).

Not to hijack the thread, but if you're also interested in my thoughts on the EPIC line, and a full-length conversation I had with Behn, see here:
