worth considering, or too good to be true?

Someone on my local Craigslist is selling a Buffet R13, silver plated keys, serial number 688541, for $1500. As far as I can tell from the pictures it looks new or almost new.

The catch is when I contacted them to ask about trying it out, I was told it is still available, but it is in Amazon's custody right now. However, he also said through Amazon I would have 7 days to return it. But I would have to order it from them.

Meanwhile I have an appointment next week to have my clarinet looked at and possibly leave it for a month to be sent out for silver plating (I'm also getting tested for a nickel allergy, which I just put together today might be what has been causing my hand rashes for the past couple years!). So there is a bit of a time crunch on a decision either way. If I do that, plus the overhaul I am at $1100 for upgrading my 1977 horn.

Thoughts?

I don't see any $1500 Buffet R13s on Amazon (unless someone just bought it within the last few hours) and that serial number is higher than some new R13s I've tried within the last few years. It seems highly unlikely that someone would buy a brand new R13 just to sell it soon after getting it and lose $2000. Also if it is a private sale through Amazon I don't think it would be in Amazon's custody, at least that's how it worked when I sold some small things over Amazon.

Yes, I emailed him back and asked about that, but so far no response. hmmm. Also, he keeps giving me an "Amazon" email address to reach out to with the domain name @cryptopay.support. I think it is a scam.

Oh well, back to plan A, which is a solid plan. :)

Sounds too suspicious.

My most recent serial number is 694,xxx, so the clarinet you mentioned is very recent.

$1500 is well below wholesale.

Sounds sketchy. Deals CAN be found, but they won't start like this.

I've bought R13s for under $1000 used locally. My best deal ever was one I picked up for a student. It was basically kept in a closet for 10 years because the owner got it as a graduation gift, but got married and had a kid and never played it. Always planned to go back but never did.

When they found out I was a teacher and it was for my student they gave me a great price. Wanted it to find a good home, and it did! Basically brand new condition. Wonderful clarinet.

Hi Sean, it's been awhile! Good to see you on hear. Brings back memories from us at Interlochen I think. Could that be true? Cheers!

Thanks Bob! I have never been to Interlochen... Hmm...

Nice to "see" you here regardless and thanks for the warm welcome!
