Which new bass clarinet to buy

Hello all,

The short: What new bass clarinet would you choose and why?

The long:
This is my first post on this BBoard but I have been a long time reader. I am a university student looking to buy a bass clarinet and would appreciate feedback from the group about what your experiences are. From searching, I have found some discussion on the board about bass clarinets, however these conversations are some times +10 years old and I would assume these matters change over time.

Right now I am mainly considering 3 options:
Buffet prestige 1193 (greenline) at $11,410 (USD)
Buffet Tosca $13,188
Selmer privilege (model 67) $13,169

I do know about Yamaha and Uebel bass clarinets, however the availability of trying these is much more difficult. I am also thinking about used options but most of what I have seen disappears quickly and is not priced much differently than new.

I am curious about what you all have chosen and why. What are the pros and cons for each instrument. What do you wish your instrument did better? What are characteristic pitfalls for each brand? From where did you purchase your instrument and how was the buying experience? (I am around Chicago) What are good ways to put trial instruments through its paces?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and questions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Best,

Geronimo

Clark Fobes has a great article on the Yamaha 622 II, Buffet 1193, and the Selmer 67 in September 2014 clarinet journal. I have a Yamaha 622 II and like it. Pure sound, easy to play over break and into the altissimo range. But neck is pulled out pretty far because it tends to play sharp, smaller sound than Buffet or Selmer and poorly designed low D, C#, and low C keys.

I have been a Selmer Paris bass clarinet player for 50 years and still prefer them to the Buffet bass clarinets. I have recently played several Tosca and 1193 basses in a group and have preferred the 1193 over the Tosca every time. For me, the Selmer 37 that I own has a smoother clarion register. Both makers make excellent quality instruments with good to excellent pitch on the third line b, c and C sharp that are so important in professional situations.
