got it on that site that cant be named. for only 90$. no one else even bid. thats one of the advantages of playing alto clairnet as it gets ignored everywhere . i am playing it on a 1950,s noblet thats a monster player before the fobes. this mpc is just a dream to play.

That seller listed a whole bunch of San Francisco mouthpieces all at once. I got the eb he was selling, for $89, there was only one other bid. It also seems to play really well.

I wonder how the new Fobes 10k mouthpieces compare? They are made on different blanks, and to slightly different geometry I believe.

I used to play a Fobes Zinner based mouthpiece and recently got a 10K. I always liked Clark's work on other blanks, but I think this is even better. It seems to have more depth and warmth with lots of projection.

Hi Well done on the Fobes and a bargain to boot. I recently bought a Pillinger which I have found to be exceptional. IMHO its a real problem on Alto, the name brand mouthpieces like a number of the horns are in significant need of a revamp. Again well done. The older leblanc/noblets are still likely the pick of the paddock. I have a Leblanc from the early 70s and one from the mid 70s they seem to have shifted the register key in the later one, i have tuned and voiced it and its a cracker. Well done again

The impression I have is that out of the box the older Leblanc plays more in tune. The newer Leblanc has the register key lower and responds better. I have done a stack of tuning work on the newer Leblanc, now IMHO as good as it gets.
Keywork on the Leblancs is generally considered to be excellent. They were both train wrecks when i got them. I have friend who does amazing metal work/plating and now the keys, bell and neck look like brand new. I have done the rest. I would go for one dated after about 1973-74. The register key is about 3mm down from the tenon socket. It also has a marching band lyre bracket whereas the older one does not. The disadvantage is that IMHO mine needed a truckload of tuning work, now amazing. They both have the Stubbins mechanism.
There are also a few Leblanc Esprit altos out there. I have not played them, they have the newer style neck.
I you get the chance try the Pillinger mouthpiece:)
